EMBRACING
YOUR ROOTS
Embracing one's cultural roots and customs is of profound importance as it fosters a sense of identity, belonging, and continuity in an ever-changing world. Our cultural heritage is a tapestry woven with the stories, traditions, and wisdom of our ancestors, serving as a powerful reminder of our shared history. By embracing these roots, we honor the struggles, achievements, and values that have shaped us. Through the celebration of customs, we strengthen the bonds within our communities, preserving our unique heritage while nurturing a sense of unity. The richness of diverse cultures contributes to the collective human experience, offering a wealth of knowledge, perspectives, and artistic expressions. When we embrace our cultural roots and customs, we not only nurture personal pride and self-discovery but also promote intercultural understanding, respect, and appreciation. It is in this embrace that we find a deeper connection to ourselves, our communities, and the world, savoring the vibrant tapestry of humanity's shared legacy.
MEET LUZ
ALTA Cultura started as a self discovery project/ hobby.
I began making candles in April 2021 because I loved them so much. I was spending too much money buying them and would go through them very quickly. I was also looking for a hobby that would put my anxious mind at ease. I thought about making candles on a Saturday and by Monday I had ordered a candle kit. After much research and reading, I decided to make my first batch and well the rest is history.
I fell in love with candle making. I enjoyed learning new things and experimenting. The journey wasn’t easy but it was worth it. It allowed me to rediscover my creativity, it challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and taught me to be patient. The process encouraged me to take better care of my mental health and myself. Candle making became a time of reflection. It allowed me to reflect and connect with myself.
After perfecting my formula I decided it was time for the world to see what I had created. However, I wanted my candles to mean something, I wanted them to have the same impact they’ve had on me. I wanted my candles to be a safe space, I wanted them to bring comfort, light and love. I wanted my customers to feel at home every time they light it.
Hence how ALTA Cultura was born. ALTA Cultura connects you to your roots through scent. Our goal is to make you feel like you belong no matter your background. Tu eres Familia.

THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTITY

My Mexican heritage. I learned English when I came to the US. I loved my third grade ESL teacher but I disliked my accent. There was a period of time where I was very self conscious of it. However, age has taught me to embrace it. I’m proud to be Mexican and have Spanish as my first language.
Being a Mental Health advocate- Growing up we were told mental health did not exist. If you felt depressed you were called lazy and told to clean. If you were anxious they told you to stop thinking about the bad and think about those who have nothing. Mental Health was not validated nor was therapy. Growing up and realizing you need therapy and having no clue how to go about it was very intimidating. Always take care of yourself.
What I have accomplished:
I am a first generation college graduate. I worked three jobs and went to school full time in order to graduate debt free. I have a Bachelors in Business Management and a minor in Communications. I have been in the finance field for 7 years. I have learned about savings, investing, spending and everything in between. I have developed a passion for financial literacy. I am fortunate to be able to educate those around me.
